Nothing says Spring Like an Azalea! A Perfect Mother's Day Gift or just to bring color to your yard. Choose Your Color!
3 Gallon Azalea
- Azaleas thrive in partial shade, well-drained, acidic soil (pH 4.5–6.0), and require consistent moisture for their shallow root systems. They need about 1 inch of water per week and a 3-inch layer of organic mulch to protect roots. Prune immediately after spring blooming, and fertilize in spring with acid-loving plant food
-
Key Care Requirements
- Light: Part shade is best, especially protection from hot afternoon sun. Some, like Encore azaleas, tolerate more sun.
- Soil: Require well-drained, acidic soil rich in organic matter. If soil is not acidic enough, amend with peat moss or pine bark.
- Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Due to shallow roots, they are prone to water stress. Water directly at the base of the plant to avoid fungal diseases.
- Fertilizing: Feed with a fertilizer designed for acid-loving plants (like Holly Tone) once in the spring after blooming.
- Mulching: Apply 3 inches of organic mulch (like pine bark or pine needles) to keep roots cool and moist, keeping it away from the stem to prevent rot.
- Pruning: Prune immediately after blooms fade in late spring or early summer to avoid cutting off next year's buds.
- Spacing: Ensure good air circulation, as high humidity can cause fungal issues.
