Beautiful Yellow Bloom comes back every year. Line any walkway, porch or just nestled in a special place.

2-Gallon Day Lilies:

  • Daylilies (Hemerocallis) are hardy, low-maintenance perennials that thrive when provided with a sunny location, well-draining soil, and regular watering. They generally require at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, consistent moisture during their first growing season, and occasional division to maintain vigorous blooms.
  • Light and Location
    • Sunlight: Plant your daylilies in a spot that receives at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. While they can tolerate partial shade, full sun maximizes their flower production.
    • Placement: Avoid planting them right next to large trees or aggressive shrubs that will compete for soil nutrients and moisture.
    Soil Requirements
    • Type: Daylilies are highly adaptable but prefer rich, loamy, well-draining soil that is slightly acidic.
    • Amendments: Mix in organic matter like compost or well-rotted manure prior to planting to improve soil structure and water retention.
    Watering and Feeding
    • Watering: Newly planted daylilies need regular moisture; plan to water them 1 to 2 times a week during their first growing season. Once established, they are highly drought-tolerant, though they perform best with about an inch of water per week.
    • Fertilizer: They do not need heavy feeding. A light application of a balanced, low-nitrogen or slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges is all they need.
    Maintenance and Pruning
    • Deadheading: Individual daylily blooms only last for a single day. You can snap off spent flowers and seed pods to keep the plant looking tidy and redirect its energy toward new buds.
    • Fall Cleanup: After the first hard frost, the foliage will die back. You can cut the old leaves down to the ground in the late fall or early winter for a clean garden bed, or simply leave them and trim in the spring.
    Dividing and Propagation
    • When: Divide your daylilies every 3 to 5 years to prevent overcrowding and ensure continuous heavy blooming. The best time to do this is early spring or late summer.
    • How: Carefully dig up the entire clump with a shovel, pull or cut the roots apart, and replant the divisions in freshly amended soil.
